Hey, Security Gang,
Well, here it is, right before Hacker Summer Camp, because what better time to showcase some fresh talent and new innovations
Last year, the list I compiled of several startups to watch really took off, so I decided to do it again. I’ve spent the first half of this year meeting with various companies—many of them unaware that they were being considered for this list. This time, I’ve selected five companies that are pushing the boundaries of innovation in our field.
Before we dive into the list, a quick disclaimer: None of the companies mentioned paid to be featured. This is an independent list based on my observations and discussions with peers in the industry.
My criteria for selection were:
Innovation
Solution adaptability and scalability
Chances of success
The leadership team.
These factors are crucial when evaluating young companies in the cybersecurity domain.
Let’s get started. This list is in no particular order, and each company has unique strengths worth highlighting.
1. Mimic
If you haven’t heard of them, it's because they’re relatively new, but they’re already making waves as a last line of defense against ransomware. Mimic focuses exclusively on ransomware prevention and operates at the enterprise level. They offer early detection tools that can stop ransomware attacks before they cause significant damage.
The leadership team, including Derek Smith and the legendary Bob Blakely, consists of experienced practitioners who have been in the trenches. Mimic's cutting-edge technology and focused approach make them a company to watch.
2. Lasso Security
Next on the list is Lasso, a company that's making it easier for organizations to integrate generative AI and large language models (LLM) into their operations. They offer comprehensive protection against data leaks and malicious code injections, helping businesses safely use AI without blocking it.
What I love about Lasso is that they’re enabling companies to say "yes" to AI while ensuring compliance and security. Led by Alon Schulman, a seasoned leader with a knack for branding, Lasso is making significant strides in a hot market.
3. LayerX Security
LayerX is transforming the approach to browser security. Unlike many other solutions that require adopting a specific browser, LayerX integrates with all major browsers, providing policies, visibility, and threat management without disrupting the user experience.
This is especially important in a world where browsers are becoming critical attack vectors. Led by a young and ambitious team, LayerX is making it easier for organizations to secure their browsing environment.
4. Miggo Security
Miggo is a newcomer focused on application detection and response. They provide visibility into applications and third-party connections, offering proactive insights rather than reactive responses. This is crucial as applications often remain a blind spot for many security teams.
Miggo's young leadership team is passionate and determined to make a mark in this space, and I believe they have a strong potential to succeed.
5. Ox Security
Last but not least is Ox Security. Ox is revolutionizing the software supply chain with an end-to-end solution that integrates seamlessly into the DevSecOps workflow. They offer real-time visibility and automated threat remediation without disrupting the development process.
Led by Nitsan Ziv, a former Checkpoint superstar, Ox has garnered rave reviews for the visibility it provides. The team and product are mature, even though the company is relatively young, and they have a bright future ahead.
These five companies are leading the charge in addressing some of the most pressing challenges in cybersecurity today. Whether it’s ransomware, AI integration, browser security, application visibility, or software supply chain security, these startups are making a significant impact.
Of course, this list isn’t exhaustive.
There are other notable companies that I wish I could add to this list but I am keeping an eye on them like:
All of which are doing impressive work in their respective areas. I’ll be keeping an eye on these companies as well.
As you head into Hacker Summer Camp next week, keep an eye out for these startups. If you get a chance to meet them, give them a shout-out and let me know what you think. And if you disagree with my picks or have other companies you believe should be on the list, feel free to reach out and share your thoughts.
